Hello All,

I created a cystal report that has a view in it that is used to pull data. I am using the ICEPPrint.asp webpage to run the report. I am getting this error:
Failed to open the connection. Failed to open the connection. C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\25432_Customer Aging by SalesPerson {BB12FF30-AFB3-4859-8B63-24E57946F0BD}.rpt
Report File: 25432_Customer Aging by SalesPerson.rpt
User: NETWORK SERVICE
Source: RptControllers.dll
Type: COMException
Stack Trace:
at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.DatabaseControllerClass.SetTableLocation(ISCRTable CurTable, ISCRTable NewTable) at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table.set_Location(String value) at CRViewer.ViewReport.ExportReport()

I am assuming this is because Interconnect does not have access to the view that is within the report???? ? What is the user that I need to give access to and how do I do this. I looked for Baco but I do not see it in user list under the database where the view is located.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks

What connection method are you using in the report? OLE? ODBC?

ODBC is what I am using. And it Is working if I run the report by hand.

In my enviornment I use ODBC, For all of the reporting I Use a Account that is created on the SQL server that has db Owner Rights to the Exact DB's
This is called for Connections either in a viewer or when in ASP by calling a Connector.

Yeah. It does not work for me when I use a custom view. The view is in DATA database which is the Macola Progression database.
I have no idea why this is. The user here is Crystal and it should work...

Make sure that on the machine that is running this the ODBC connectors exist as well.
If it is a web server than u need the connectors locally on that machine.
I have done this on accident before.

It works for the report that us using only a table ARCUSFIL_SQL for example. Once I join the 2 with the view it no longer works...

What do you mean by connectors?

EG.. Control panel >Administrator Tools>ODBC Data Sources> then USER DSN
Here you should have Data connectors to the database you are trying to hit.
this should exist on the machine that is trying to run the report. If doing it via ASP that would mean the web server.
In addition check the event log for errors when you try to run it. see if we can get more detail on the error it will help in deterimineing the problem
also check the data sources in the report just to make sure that they are set according to the connectors you are using
I used to run into issues like this when running older reports that were written pre conversion due to in ES most of the AR tables do not exist any more.
So I would have to go in and rewrite the Data connectors and remap the links.

If you want shoot me an Email and I could send you a webex meeting to see if I might be able to help

It works for the report that us using only a table ARCUSFIL_SQL for example. Once I join the 2 with the view it no longer works...

With that said I would check a few things.
First make sure that the user being used has access to the location of the View
Also is the report working when you run it in just Crystal ?
if not then check the Linking failure for a view to work when joined to a other tables is normally caused by the linking being incompatable.
If the report works in Crystal and not just through an ASP page then i would look at the ASP page and see if it is modifying the connection string making it different then what is happening when you run it in Crystal.
in addition Checking to be sure the ODBC connectors on the machine trying to run the report are there.
Worst case the way to debugg it in the end is to run a process monitor while attempting to do it so that you could find out what and why it is failing.

I give up...

There is no reason that this should not work... I even tried creating another ODBC connector, tried giving rights to all Users in my database (including public) to be able to access the view....

1. I got the connectors (it works without the view and the report is exactly the same)
2. The report runs normaly when I open it in Crystal.
3. The exactly same report runs fine if the view is not attached to it.

I dont know what to do

If you want I can do a Webex session with you and we could look at it together
I find some times when i have been working on some thing that is giving me problems that it help to have a different set of Eyes look at it
this way They might see some thing I am over looking.

Send me an Email and I can send you a Webex meeting if not
I would get intouch with a consultant they can most likely figure it out as well.

In the short amount of time looking at it I would say that the ASP seems to work fine as long as it is calling from the Database but when going to the View it does not connect.
I did not get to see in full detail the connection string in the ASP but it might be restricting it to the tables.

This is a good reference for the different methods of using crystal with asp
http://www.beansoftware.com/asp.net-tutorials/using-crystal-reports.aspx

as I am not as familure with how they are doing the connection info for interconnect but it could be being handled by a web.config or an an app.config file
depending on how it is set up this would explain why the view does not work.
here is another Idea. try creating a report that just uses that view with no linking and see if the report will work.
This should let you know if it is infact that connection info that is getting in the way.
If so I would believe that the connection string is mostlikely restricting you to the parent DB and not allowing acess to the views.

If you have more time later we can do some testing to see what is going on,
also I know a few consultants that might be able to get it working.

Shawn,

Thanks for your help. I gave up on doing it this way...
I don't have time to fix it and this project needs to be done in a week. :(

I really appreciate your help.

I will just use hidden addresses and only allow exports to Excel and Word because the address remains a mistery in that case...

I will probably re visit this a little later.
