Something that explains the fields in the tables and the table relationships?

Also is there any documentation explaining rules for importing data to the tables? Say you want to mass change one field on the item master. What does the IMITMIDX.txt import file need to make it work? Is there any documenation for that?

I started looking for some kind of DB Schema Diagram my first day at work and every week I hit cases where I could use such a Diagram.

Come on ... it would take a Macola DB architect 30 minutes to map out the important table relations while I've spent 3 hours trying to link GL accounts to Inv TXs ...

The following SQL is helping understand the Relationships and write queries faster:

SELECT dbo.sysobjects.name
FROM dbo.syscolumns INNER JOIN
dbo.sysobjects ON dbo.syscolumns.id = dbo.sysobjects.id
WHERE (dbo.syscolumns.name = 'trx_id')
ORDER BY dbo.sysobjects.name

This tells me all the TABLES that have a FIELD called trx_type. In this way you can see all of the tables that could be linked by a certain field.

All of these tables could be linked by trx_id:

ADGENWRK_SQL
APGENWRK_SQL
ARGENWRK_SQL
BBDISFIL_SQL
BBGENWRK_SQL
GLGENTRX_SQL
GLGENWRK_SQL
GLRECTRX_SQL
IMGENWRK_SQL
MCGENWRK_SQL

I'm surprised that Exact has not chimed in on this. There is a DRM available. (developers reference manual). I'd go to their customer portal or just call their 800-468-0834 number and talk to a sales person. Assuming your VAR doesn't have the materials. If nothing else let me know and I'll send you mine if I can. Don't remember how large it is.

Thanks Ann.

If you search for "DRM" (on exact portal) you'll see it as the 3rd entry.

select sysobjects.name from syscolumns
inner join sysobjects on syscolumns.id = sysobjects.id
where syscolumns.name = 'cus_no'

Run this SQL script and you will get a list of the tables and views that use the data element in the quote marks.

This was very helpful for us.

We installed Exact Business Analytics (EBA) 2 weeks ago.

The foundation of EBA is a number of SQL Views (multiple related tables joined together by their key fields).

One good side-effect of EBA is having access to these views. You can look through the View defs and see the key tables and their relations.

As Far as EBA's value is concerned ... I'll let you know later. I'm trying to get EXACT to document which fields they actually make available to be used. You might want to ask them before you purchase.

What percentage of the Macola Fields are actually mapped? We assumed everything was available.
