e-Synergy document structure (Main category/Category/Subcategory) demands that you structure your data one way. In our case we structured by piece of hardware. However you structure, you will have repeated subcategory structure within parallel categories.

Lists gives you a way to cut across structure horizontally rather than have to drill vertically, as long as you use identical structure for your categories of interest. For instance, all of our hardware categories (like model 7 razor) has subcategories of user's manual, maintenance manual, and so on. Using the Criteria section of a layout list, you can specify subcategory name and e-Synergy will dutifully return all documents in any category with that name. That lets you find, at a click, all of your operators manuals or whatever you set up the list for. It essentially gives you a separate way of looking at your data.

Great idea. Lists are a great, but underutilized tool. What about list all your press release on your public website, what about listing all the documents that relate to a product category (assortment), etc.

As well, you can make unique headers for you list that add to the look.
